Passphrase generator

Easy to say. Hard to guess.

A handful of randomly chosen words can be memorable and long. The selection is performed by code running in your browser.

A little control, still plenty of randomness.

Quick read

Waiting for input

A longer password with more variety is harder to guess.

  • Type a password to check it locally.

Know the tradeoff

Memorable does not automatically mean high-entropy.

Good fit

A passphrase can help when you must type a secret often. Save it in a manager anyway, keep the generated words unchanged, and never reuse it. Capitalization and an added number mainly help satisfy site rules; the random word choices do the important work.

Important limitation

This tool draws independently from only 80 words, so repeats are possible. Five words provide about 32 bits from word selection. Do not use it for a password-manager master password, encryption key, or similarly high-value secret; use a well-vetted large-list generator.

Never use the example phrases shown in menus.
